Jewellery Guide

Akoya Pearl

The quality of pearls mainly depends on pearls' colour and shape, but pearls' surface smoothness, luster, and thickness are also important considerations. Only high-quality Akoya Pearls can successfully meet all strict standards and allows beautiful memories and elegant designs perpetuate. As a result, Vivienne Diamant only use Akoya Pearls from Japan seawater to produce its jewellery. And the standards of pearl selection is shown below:

Luster
  • 1. Luster is the first attention paid to selecting pearls.
  • 2. The smoothness and the thickness of pearl's surface deeply affect the luster of a pearl.
  • 3. The thicker the pearl's surface, the deeper the luster of the pearl.
  • 4. The greatest charm of an Akoya Pearl is in its elegant and feminine luster.
Surface Thickness
  • 1. The thicker the pearl's surface, the better the quality of the pearl.
  • 2. The thickness of the pearl's surface is related to the culture time and environment. The longer the culture time, the thicker the pearl's surface. If the culture environment uses sea water, the thicker the pearl's surface.
  • 3. The quality of the pearl would be greatly improved by the thicker the pearl's surface. The pearl's luster would become brighter; its surface becomes smoother; its life duration becomes longer.
Shape
  • 1. The industry believes when the pearl shape is closer to a perfectly round circle, it has better quality.
  • 2. Special-shaped pearls reserve their charms for how they plays in jewellery design to achieve a new visual experience.
Size
  • 1. The diameter unit of a round pearls is generally millimeters(mm).
  • 2. The industry generally thinks the larger the pearl in size, the rarer it is.
  • 3. Akoya Pearls are mostly 3~8mm in diameter, and when their size reaches more than 9mm are rare treasures.
  • 4. Like the carat of diamonds, the size of pearls is not the most important standard in selecting pearls. It is recommended to choose the right size according to the occasion and clothing.
Colour
  • 1. Pearls are usually white or milky white in colour.
  • 2. Akoya Pearls have white, pink, green, and gold colours. The ones with balanced colour are preferred.
  • 3. Except for white, which is the most classic colour, other colours' popularity would change according to fashion trends.

Vivienne Diamant pearl jewellery needs to be worn elegantly and carefully, especially considering pearls are organic gemstones. Pearl jewellery requests careful maintenance.

In order to prevent and minimise damages as much as possible, we recommend you to avoid exposing your pearl jewellery to the following environment or items: (1) erratic temperature, (2) perfume and cosmetics, (3) ultrasonic cleaning, (4) household chemicals agent. If you wear it very frequently, you should perform professional factory cleaning and maintenance once a year. For daily maintenance, you can use a damp cloth (clean water) to gently wipe the pearls.
